Taking My Own Maternity Photos in my Birmingham Studio – My Pregnancy Journey
This is a moment I’ve been waiting for, for almost 2 years. If you follow me on instagram you may have read some of my story, about how our journey to having a second child has been hard. I feel strongly about being open about my experience as I know how common it is to go through these struggles & I believe talking more openly about it only helps us all.
At the end of 2023 we decided it was the right time for us to try for another baby. Sadly, over the next year we would experience 3 pregnancy losses. With our second loss, I also had a traumatic experience in the hospital. These experiences have changed me & challenged me in ways I never imagined. If you’ve experienced pregnancy loss, then you’ll know how hard it is. And then there’s pregnancy after loss. It’s challenging in so many ways. You’re scared of another loss, you’re scared of it being worse than the previous losses. It’s a constant mental battle of wanting to feel hopeful that this time it will be ok, but also being so terrified to get “too comfortable” in the pregnancy incase something bad happens.
Thankfully so far, this pregnancy is going well. I’m now 32 weeks & on the home stretch. We can’t wait to meet this new bundle of joy. I’ll finally be able to breathe a HUGE sigh of relief when he’s safely here in our arms.
Taking these maternity photos in my studio in Birmingham, I felt such a feeling of peace, gratitude & excitement. My husband took the photos of me on film & I gave our 6 year old, Louis, his own digital camera (his photos are at the bottom of the post!) and I just love seeing how he sees me, through his photos.
These photos below were taken by my 6 year old. I think he has a natural talent for photography, don’t you?! I love seeing how he sees the world.
