Family Film Photographer

hi friends, my name is Joanna
How it all started
Hi there! I’m Joanna, a film photographer specialising in family, maternity & newborn photography, based in Birmingham, UK
Photography began as a creative outlet for me. It was a way for me to express myself. It gave me a voice, which was a big deal for this introvert. Then as I grew through life, I experienced heartache & loss. I lost my best friend to cancer at only 27. This showed me the true value of having beautiful photos of our loved ones. After we’re gone, photos & memories are all that’s left. This reframed how important photos truly are. Photos allow us to relive these incredible moments, feel how we felt. That’s priceless. Photos only increase in value over time.
Becoming a mum reinforced this even more. Life moves so quickly & our babies grow in the blink of an eye. Being a parent has made me appreciate all the little, everyday moments just as much as the big milestones. Without photos, these moments can so easily slip from our memories.
One of my biggest motivations as a photographer is to empower women, particularly other mothers. To help them see how beautiful they are. To celebrate their strength & everything they give to their babies. So many of us don’t see the beauty in the moment but looking back on it, you see it with different eyes. To me, these photos are truly so valuable, in so many ways.

My background in weddings and a passion for storytelling
I’ve been a photographer for 17 years & photographing weddings and families for 11 years. I have a lot of experience under my belt. I’ve spent these years honing my craft, investing in pushing myself & learning more, to be the very best I can be at my job.
I learned to shoot film because I believe it’s the best medium for photographing such precious, beautiful moments. There’s no room for error when it comes to film so this has made me a better photographer both technically & creatively. Creating a beautiful gallery full of timeless, emotive images is something I’m extremely passionate about. Creating heirlooms to pass down to our children so they can experience the memories through the photos. Bringing those moments back to life.
My approach allows me to capture images intentionally, capturing moments organically, never anything forced.
At the end of 2023 I opened an intimate studio in the heart of Birmingham. I would love to welcome you into my studio for a portrait session or if you prefer the beauty of being outside, we can arrange an outdoor session for your family photos. I also love to capture families in their own homes.
